With personalized medicine, it is hoped that the application of genomic and molecular data will help to target the delivery of healthcare, will facilitate a patient's predisposition to a particular disease or condition. Although personalized genomics holds great promise, challenges need to be overcome to identify patients accurately who will benefit from a drug treatment. Predictive biomarkers in combination with targeted therapies through clinical trials have proven to accurately identify patients most likely to benefit. The insurgency of tissue directed biomarkers will only increase in the future. To many physicians, this revolution will come in the form of improved disease prediction, preventive medicine, diagnostic testing, and treatments. This webinar will discuss the current use of predictive markers and the future impact on the laboratory and patient.

Presenter Bio: Ms. Sheppard has worked in both private and academic management of Anatomic Pathology laboratories for the past 30 years. She is Senior Director of Market Access at Roche Tissue Diagnostics/ Ventana Medical Systems, in Tucson, Arizona. Her educational background includes degrees in Histotechnology, Biology and a Masters in Business Administration. Her faculty experience consists of Clinical Experience Advisor, and Instructor, State University of New York at Cobleskill, Faculty, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Fundamental of Pathology and Adjunct Faculty at Pima County Community College Histology Program. She has held the position of Chairperson of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) HT/HTL ASCP examination committee and has held office as State President of New York and North Carolina, NSH Region 1 Director. She is a voting member and committee representative with the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and is a member of the US ISO – Technical Advisory Group (TAG). Currently, Committee Member of the Histotechnology Committee, College of American Pathologists and is the Immediate Past President of the National Society for Histotechnology (NSH).
